month we announce two upcoming retirements from the Northeast Regional
Library System. Jane Vess, library assistant at the Iuka Library,
will retire at the end of January. Jamie Wall, Walnut librarian, will
retire at the end of March.
Vess has been a library assistant at Iuka for the past 14 years. She
began working for the library shortly after the Northeast Regional
Library automated its operations at all branches, transitioning from
an all manual to a computer based system. In addition to her regular
library duties at the circulation desk, Jane has been responsible
for bulletin board displays and for keeping the librarys scrapbook
up to date.
says that she will miss the library and all the Iuka patrons very
much. In her retirement she plans to spend more time with her family
and the family pets and will be able to visit relatives more often.
She also plans to travel: an Alaskan cruise is in her near future!
Wall has been librarian at the Walnut Library since 2004. Walnut is
a one-person library, meaning that Jamie has spent the past 10 years
single-handedly performing all the duties that are part of managing
a library with only occasional help from substitutes.
tells us that she will truly miss the staff and her counterparts at
the other branch libraries and that she will especially miss her patrons.
After retirement she plans to visit family and friends more often.
She has always been an avid traveler and plans to do more of it in
the coming years.
