Interlibrary
Loan
Users
are not limited to just what the library has in its own holdings.
Interlibrary loan is available whenever a user cannot find what he
or she needs from the library's collection. Materials may be borrowed
from in and out of state to fill a request. Be sure to ask for help
if you cannot locate the information you need. The librarian will
help you search, and if what you need cannot be found you may wish
to use the free Interlibrary Loan service.
Service
to the Blind and Physically Handicapped
Through
the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped,
the Mississippi Library Commission offers this free service to all
Mississippians who are legally blind or are in any way physically
unable to read and/or hold a conventional print item. Free cassette
players and books on tape are available by registering at any branch
library. Cassette players and tapes are mailed to the user's home.
Return mail is free, and the Library Commission will send as many
new titles to the user as he or she returns to them. At the time of
registration, the user will have the opportunity to state his or her
reading interests, any special requests, and what type of equipment
will be necessary. Call your local branch library for further information.
Genealogy
and Local History Collections
Several
larger branches including Corinth, Booneville, Iuka, and Ripley, have
separate genealogy and local history collections that are available
for in-house use. U.S. Census records on microfilm are available at
several branch locations as are journals on genealogical research,
passenger lists, and more. Contact one of the 4 libraries listed above
to inquire about a specific title.
Computers
Through
a grant provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, most branch
libraries have one or more computers available for public use. All
computers access the Internet and contain the Microsoft Office Professional
2003 suite of word processing and Power Point programs.
Computer
Training
The
Iuka Library offers free weekly computer training classes throughout
the year from 9 to 11 a.m. each Wednesday. The first group of classes
is held from October through November, the second group is held from
January through April. Call the library at 662-423-6300 for a schedule
and to reserve a spot.
Photocopy
and FAX
Most
branches of the library system have copiers and fax machines. Copies
are 15 cents per page. The cost of sending a fax is $3 for the first
page, $1 per page after that. The cost of receiving a fax is $1 per
page.
Wireless
Access
Seven
branches of the Northeast Regional Library offer free wireless Internet
access. The service is available 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
After hours the wireless connection is accessible from the libraries'
parking lots and elsewhere on library grounds. The service is offered
at Corinth, Booneville, Iuka, Ripley, Baldwyn, Belmont, Walnut and
Burnsville Libraries.
Drop
Boxes for Library Materials
Many
branch libraries have outside book returns for return of library materials
after hours. Inquire at your branch to find out the location of its
book return.
Meeting
Rooms
Meeting
rooms of various sizes are available for use by the public in several
branches of the Northeast Regional Library. Fund raising events which
are held solely for the support of the library (such as Friends of
the Library book sales) may be held in these rooms. Other events which
do not benefit the Library or which charge admission may not be held
at the Library.
